Roman received his first license with the call sign UA3AHF in 1975 at the age of 16 in Russia. In 1984 he became RZ3AA and since 2010 - R5AA.
In 2000 Roman passed the exam for an extra class license in the USA and received the call sign NP2KY. In 2022 he received a license in Cyprus and the callsign 5B4AQN.
In 2023 Roman obtained a license in Switzerland and the call sign HB9HTY. All his licenses are current, and he uses call signs according to which country he is in at any given time.
Roman has 2 university degrees as a radio communications and broadcasting engineer and as a lawyer. As of 2018, Roman is retired.
Roman holds a DXCC Honor Roll with 332 current countries confirmed, as well as awards such as 5BDXCC, DXCC Challenge, WAS, WAZ, WPX etc.
Roman has participated in such major DX expeditions as K5K (Kingman Reef), 3D2CI/3D2CY (Conway Reef) and K1B (Baker Island) in which one he was co-leader.
He has also worked on air as EK8R, NP2KY/KH6, NP2KY/KH5, NP2KY/KH2, NP2KY/KH0, 3D2RU, T23A, T32R, T88AA, V63UA.
Roman has also been a guest and worked in competitions like KP2A, W1AW, 3V8BB, P3A, YT1AD, 4U1ITU, HU1A, KH7Q.
In terms of DXFC he visited 122 countries.
He has been active in contests since 2022 with the call sign P35A.
Roman was a referee at WRTC-2002 and a member of the PW5T team at WRTC-2006. Roman was chairman of the organizing committee, organizer and main sponsor of WRTC-2010. He is currently a member of the WRTC -Sanctioning Committee.
Roman devotes time to public service. He was a delegate to the UN World Radio Conference in 2003 and since 2009 he has been a regular participant in IARU- Region 1 General Conferences. From 2003 to 2011 Roman was the President of the national amateur radio society of Russia (SRR).
Roman is a lifetime member of QCWA, SEDXC, SRR, member of CARS, USKA, Paphos Radio Club.
